Myrna Draper took our Spicy Spiral Class and made this great table runner.  It is such a fun table runner to make, and very addicting too!  It requires only 8 fat quarters for the top.  Purchase the fat quarters or use your scraps.  Quilt it on your home machine too!  You can also use it as a wall hanging.

Block of the Month Programs Starting Soon

Block of the Month Programs

We have three programs starting in April and May.  There is a $25 registration fee for each, which pays for your final kit.  This is a program where you just come in and pick up your kit, no class to worry about attending. 
 
"A to Z for Ewe and Me" - An appliqued alphabet quilt designed by Janet Stone for The Quilt Show.  The quilt measures 69" x 88", finished, and the program runs 12 months.  Kits are $19.95 each month.  Patterns will need to be downloaded with a special code each month.

"Daydream" - This quilt measures 86" x 104" finished.  It features Michael Miller Fabrics (Spa color) and the pattern is by Swirly Girls.  The program runs 10 months at $20.95 per month.

"Plain & Fancy" is a 82" x 82" finished quilt.  It features the Petals and Matrix fabrics by Quilting Treasures, with the option of pieced or applique' cornerstones.  It runs 9 months at $24.95 per month.

A Fast Remodel

We decided that our classroom was way too small for our needs (and for the Quilt Guild), so we set about to remodel it.  Quilts came down and tables, chairs and projects were moved out of the classroom.  The pattern and slat wall was moved and the work began.  On Saturday, March 1, family and friends joined us to clear off the shelves that would be moved.  Fat quarters, bolts of fabric and patterns were all moved in less than 1 hour.

The sheet rock of the classroom wall had been removed previously.  Now it was time for Bob to saw it off the wall and pry it up from the floor.
(Good thing it wasn't permanently glued down.)

After a week of hard work from Linda & Bob and all the helping hands (Carolyn & Evan, Amber & Jerry Cox, Rick Fabrizio for the work on the carpet, Michelle Bennett, Randi & Nicholas Weight, Tyler & Janessa Peterson, Nancy & Jim Hutchinson, Lisa & Darren Weight, Brian Hermansen for the work with the cabinets and Angie Hagerman for taking pictures), we were finally able to clean and get everything back in order!

Things have been kind of hectic here at My Sister's Quilts.  Linda and I lost our older sister, Kathy Westover, in January.  We will miss her.

We have received over 15 lines of fabric, over a dozen blenders and over 4 dozen new batiks in the last 4 weeks!

February Mystery Quilt of the Month

Here is our February Mystery Quilt of the Month - "Starflower".

Sorry about all the confusion with the border fabric.  We have received a new shipment of the yellow and the peach fabrics, (sorry,we were not able to get any of the blue) for all of you who still need border fabric, backs and bindings.

The fabric for the March Mystery Quilt of the Month is on display at the shop.  I will have the picture up soon.

Quilt Size -  73" x 85"
Block size - 11 1/2" finished 

Fabric Requirements

Fabric #1 - 2 1/4 yds.
Fabric #2 - 2 1/4 yds.
1st Border - 1/2 yd.
2nd Border - 1 1/2 yds.
Backing - 5 1/8 yds.
Binding - 5/8 yds,

BEST PRESS FABRICS #1 & #2 BEFORE CUTTING!  (You can purchase a 16 oz. spray bottle of Best Press at our shop and refill it on the 2nd Friday of each month for $5!)

Instructions

 1/4" seam allowance

1.     Fabric #1:  Cut (8) strips 10" x wof (width of fabric - selvage to selvage).  Sub-cut into (30) 10"   squares. 
Repeat for Fabric #2.
 




2.     Layer a  Fabric #1 square, right sides together, on a Fabric #2 square.  Press together.  Pin around all edges.  Flat flower head pins are the best to use as you can lay your ruler on them.







 3.     Make a mark 2" from a corner along one side.
Repeat on opposite side

4.     Sew  a seam, starting at the 2" mark and across the square.  Repeat on opposite side.
Sew all the way down the two other sides.  You now have a square with all four sides sewn.  Two of the sides will be sewn completely and two will have a 2" opening at opposite corners.

5.     Cut your unit in half diagonally, through the stitched corners.

6.     Cut each triangle half as illustrated,
2" in from edges.

7.     Each triangle will yield these pieces.

8.     Layout pieces as illustrated.

9.     Sew pieces into diagonal rows.

10.     Sew rows together to form a block.  Your block will have uneven edges.

11.     Square block to 12", unfinished.  You may square it smaller if you choose, but why waste fabric?

12.  You can now choose to set your blocks to form a square where the blocks meet,   OR

Set them so the opposite fabrics meet.


13.  Cut your 1st border 2 1/2" wide.  I used the blue fabric.

14.  Cut your 2nd border 6 1/2" wide.  For this I used the yellow.

Starching your fabrics first is a MUST with this block, as you are working with bias edges.  I use Best Press because it gives it a good finish and leaves no residue.
