Christmas Crazyness

Hello out there! It has been too long friends!
Is there anyone else out there working like crazy on Christmas presents and such??
The needle on my sewing machine has certainly had quite a work out lately. I am bound and determined to get my son's 'baby' quilt done before he is a year old, so only two weeks to go!

So many projects, so little time!

Things are a little busy all around, so I just wanted to update the blog and send out some good vibes to all of you during this great time of year.  The quilting world is quite a giving one, which I love :) It has been an absolute pleasure to interact with many of you at the store and in classes. The class I was taking has sadly ended (Cherry Tweet taught by Cori Blunt, Wow).  I looked forward to it each month and the ladies I met were GEMS. Always kind, sharing freezer paper, rotary cutters, tips, and advice. So much fun to be around.

Since I have met some of you, but not all, I thought I would introduce myself to you as well. My name is JaNean. I have a wonderful husband and two adorable children, who keep me pretty busy. I defiantly don't get as much time to quilt as I would like, but that's okay. I love to keep up with fabric collections and other bloggers who are kind enough to share their genius with the rest of us. My list of projects grows all the time and I hope that someday I will get to them all!

Linda and Carolyn were brave enough to ask me to take over the upkeep of the blog after the lovely Patsy passed away. She was amazing. I only got to chat with her once or twice, but she sure was a special person. She was the kind of gal that made you feel like family after about a minute of knowing her. I was honored to help out, though I know it will never be a special as Patsy could have done.

Linda and Carolyn are also family, literally! They are my father's cousins and it has been so great to see them succeed in their dream.  My kids prevent me from spending too much time in the store, but I would be there every day if I could. I love the atmosphere there. The fabric and patterns and notions are just a bonus. It really is a great place to be :)

My grandmother was also a big time quilter. She inspired me with all the wonderful quilts she gave us for Christmas and weddings. I always loved receiving them and I hope that I can leave such a great legacy with my family too. Grams died in 2008, but as I have learned more and more in the quilting world I feel closer to her. It was a big part of her life, and now I am following in her footsteps.

My quilt style is quite modern and I LOVE bright fabrics against white or black. I have quite the collection of patters that I can't wait to make and a weakness for Art Gallery and Riley Blake fabrics. They make me swoon.... I recently fell in love with cathedral window quilts, but my husband has forbidden me from attempting one for now, as he thinks he will never see me (which is probably true) so it has been added to my project list. Like I said earlier, so many projects so little time!

Anyway, that is a little bit about me. I hope to get to know more of you as I visit the shop and build my stash (shh, don't tell my hubby ;)

All of us at My Sisters Quilts want to wish you the very best Holiday Season for you and your family. May the spirit of the season be with you and help you finish up anything you need to get done for the special ones in your life! Remember if you need anything last minute, stop by the shop and we would be happy to help you out.

We would also love to get to know each of you better, so please leave us a comment and tell us what kind of quilts you like to make and what you might like to read about on the blog :)

Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to you!!!

Celebrations and Customer Show and Tell!

A BIG Thank You to all of those who joined us the 17th-19th for our Anniversary celebration! We had some excellent instruction from Ruth Jensen of Thimble Arts, and she was kind enough to bring a free pattern for all of those that attended. How NICE!!

Here are a few close up looks at some of her work,
many are still hanging around the shop so come and see them in person if you can!

This Nativity is one of my personal favorites!

Many people got prizes and birthday gifts and (drum roll  please).....

The winner of our 1st Anniversary Quilt was Kaylee Withers.
Congratulations Kaylee

We hope having a beautiful quilt from My Sister's Quilts
will inspire you to make many more of your own :)

We also picked a name from all the punch cards redeemed during our first year
 to receive yet another quilt.

Congratulations Sandy Doxey for being our lucky winner!

We are so glad so many of you are taking advantage of the punch cards!

Also, NEW at My Sister's Quilts, the Customer Show and Tell Wall!!
Every few weeks we will be displaying a quilt made by one of our amazing customers, right behind the cutting table for all to admire. In case you missed them, here are some pictures of the last two that have been displayed:

First up was this adorable quilt that was a group effort. The applique was completed by Shirley Putnam, piecing by Shauna Bunker, and quilting by Sherrie Jackman.
 Isn't it beautiful!!

Beautifully done ladies!! We were so happy to have your work displayed in our store!!

Next up was this beauty by Vicky Robertson.
 Yes those are EMBROIDERED blocks!

Each of the blocks took Vicky about 30 hours to complete.
Wow!!
I must admit there was some jaw dropping action when I saw this quilt for the first time. INCREDIBLE is all there is to say.

So the next time that you finish a work of art that you are particularly proud of, bring it in to show Carolyn and Linda!
They would love to see it and you might find your work up for all to see and admire.

We love our customers at My Sisters Quilts!!
Thank you again for a wonderful year, and hopefully many more to come!!!

One year ago this week, My Sisters Quilts opened its doors.
It has been an amazing year, full of new friends, beautiful quilts, knowledgeable teachers, and of course our great customers!!

We would like to say THANKS to all of you that have made this last year such a success, and what better way to celebrate than a SALE and a trunk show!

This weekend Thursday through Saturday the 17th-19th of November you are sure to find a reason to celebrate with the great specials we are having:

The first 100 customers will receive a pincushion with their purchase
The ENTIRE store will be 20% off, including clearance fabrics!
We will have a drawing to win a beautiful finished QUILT
And if you find a stamp on your receipt or a sticker on an item you are purchasing you will get an anniversary gift!

And if those were not enough reasons to come celebrate with us, on Saturday the 19th at 2:30 we will welcome our very special guest Ruth Jensen of Thimble Art who will be doing a demo on her dimensional foundation piecing that you won't want to miss!

Many of her quilts will be on display at the store, and believe me when I tell you, they are STUNNING.
We will have her patterns available to purchase as well as some of her books.
Come and see some of these beautiful quilts in person!

We hope to see you all this weekend to celebrate our anniversary!!!

New Fabric Collections!

Have you been in to the store lately??
If you have I would bet that you noticed two new fabric collections that we got in a week or two ago,
Kari Ramsay's Daisy Dance and Jill Finley's Sorbet Garden!! Check out how beautiful they are!

These beauties are Jill Finley's Sorbet Garden, by Henry Glass Fabrics

Follow this link to her blog about the new line and an adorable pattern called "Crossroads" featuring these beautiful fabrics. There is a free downloadable pattern here from Henry Glass.

And these lovelies are  Kari Ramsay's Daisy Dance

You can download this free pattern for Daisy Dance here from Henry Glass Fabrics (and there is also a beautiful Blue/Purple option), as well as take a closer look at each of the fabrics in the collection.

This gorgeous quilt "Twisted Star" is also made from Daisy Dance fabrics.
The pattern is of course from Fresh Cut Quilts and is available at My Sisters Quilts, hanging up right next to the collection.

 Isn't is so CUTE!!

"Wallflowers" is another gorgeous pattern featuring the fantastic Daisy Dance fabrics.

So if you haven't already added some of these two lines to your stash or planned a project with them, you should hurry into the shop and make sure that you get them before they are gone!!

As always Happy Stitching!

Quilt for the Cure

Did you know that My Sister's Quilts made and donated a quilt to be raffled off at the "Fight Like a Girl" Survivor Luncheon  for the Susan G. Komen foundation on October 1st??

Amazing right?

They LOVED it, mostly because it is simply DAZZLING. Some said that it was one of the most beautiful quilts that they had received and and I for one believe them.
So much talent and love went into this beauty.
Jen Hinwood designed it, Carolyn Weight (Co-Owner of MSQ) pieced it,
Amber Cox did the embroidery, and Paul Everill quilted it.
 Beautiful job everyone!!!

It is a great opportunity to use the talents we have cultivated in quilting for such a worthy cause.
Nothing warms the heart like a quilt made with love.

What kind of Charity Opportunities have you taken advantage of as a quilter??

Patsy Tribute

As you can tell by my previous posts, I cannot do what Patsy did.  She was so creative about everything and our blog showed it.  From the first time Patsy dropped into our store, I knew she was creative, honest and genuine.  As she left our store that first time, I told my sister that we needed to hire her.  We did hire her and it was the best thing that happened to My Sister's Quilts.  She wanted to help us succeed and gave us tips and tricks of the trade.  Her beautiful quilts hang on our walls and her energy was a ray of sunshine in our store.  She was always telling customers they were beautiful, had nice clothes or nice hair and made everyone feel good.  She gave more than 110% at everything she did.  Her family and grandchildren were everything to her.  She was always telling us about them and was very proud of her husband and family.  My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time and always.  Love you dearly Sista!  Linda
